Official Project Agenda

The SPF project agenda currently consists of the following items in order of priority:

1. Get SPFv1 published as an RFC ✔
2. Review and move content from the old website to the new website and try to make the new one sufficiently complete that the old one can be archived
3. Coordinate and drive the creation of an implementation-independent test suite
4. Update the list of library implementations, determine their states, and determine if one of them can be blessed as reference implementation immediately
5. Update the report on MTA support and get SPF into more MTA distros (in core or as plugins)
6. Update the report on OS support and get SPF into more OS distros
7. Start a grassroots "Spread SPF!" campaign to get in touch with domain owners and ESPs/ISPs.

Tasks related to existing Project Agenda items

• Website updates:
  • Write the missing Introduction ✔ and Vision pages
  • Overhaul the Project Overview and Menubar pages ✔
  • Update the news ✔
  • Review and revise the FAQ
  • Write a "common mistakes" section of the FAQ, or writing a separate common-mistakes FAQ
  • Write directed responses to FUD articles such as Jonathan de Boyne Pollard's one
  • Pick a date to do the move of http://new.openspf.org to http://www.openspf.org
• SPF implementations:
  • Maintain lists of implementations.
  • Bless one of them as an official reference implementation.
• MTA support:
  • Maintain lists of MTA plugins and direct MTA functionality. There are lots of sendmail milters, but postfix and qmail support is scarce.
  • Push for plugins or nonpluging inclusion of SPF functinality, in situations where neither exist.

Other Tasks

• Gather data to satisfy the goals of the IETF experiment
• Working on or brainstorming on the design of a newer version of SPF
• Standard format for "Debugging" response to SPF softfail result.
