Standards track extension of SPF approved by IESG

The IESG announced today that it had approved draft-ietf-marf-spf-reporting as a Proposed Standard.

This document extends SPF as defined in RFC 4408. It adds a set of new SPF modifiers to enable SPF record publishers to request feedback on SPF failures using the Email feedback report. This is a key enhancement to the protocol because it provides a much needed feedback mechanism to assist in deploying and maintaining SPF records.

It also adds a new IANA registry for SPF mechanisms to ensure the mechanism namespace is properly managed. Both this and the document being published as a Proposed Standard are indicators of increased interested in the IETF community in SPF.
